Norfolk Southern Railway
Lindale, GA – Double Track Project
The Crouch Engineering design team was tasked with designing a new section of double track main line for Norfolk Southern Railway in the vicinity of Lindale, GA on the Atlanta – Chattanooga Norfolk Southern Railway main line. During the project walk-through, the Crouch team identified potential permitting and construction problems due to a stream conflict on one section of the project, over a length of approximately ½ mile.
In order to expedite the design time and construction time, and reduce environmental impacts and the project schedule, the Crouch Engineering team designed concept and final plans for an alignment that changed sides of the main line for the proposed track, through the adverse terrain. The Crouch Team worked with Norfolk Southern Railway to accept the proposed plan, reducing permitting time and construction time, while lowering the construction cost. The proposed railroad alignment change was approved and accepted by Norfolk Southern Railway and incorporated into the design of the double track project.
